This book is one messy, goofy, scary, silly story that reads an awful lot like a B-movie.
Wendy, our lead character, is a bisexual pining for her former lover. The two of them and their circle of friends are working hard to plan an upcoming Pride event. As part of the program, the planning group agrees to a partnership with Seabrook, which produces the Zima-esque beverage that everyone’s drinking.
When people start acting weird, Wendy must join with new and old friends to help save the world from a zombie infestation.
The book moves along at a fast clip and the zombie story is a lot of fun, but the characters themselves are paper-thin stereotypes. I think my biggest issue is Wendy’s ex, Leah, who is so utterly toxic it’s impossible to understand why they were a couple in the first place, let alone why Wendy is so down bad.
There are a few spicy sex scenes in completely weird and inappropriate times, if you’re looking for that sort of thing. But overall, I wish that the book had let the characters develop in a way that allowed us to root for the protagonist as much as the delightful side characters Sunshine and Beau.
